it was for 3 reasons, in that order
teamplay
darkness
ZOMBIS
it lacks on pvp (i know, thats not the purpose), and i dont know what exactly changed but i just remember that silly mod where you throw shivas at eachother; i suggest some real pvp mode for the game so that it can be awsome

Thank you all for your amazing responses. I'm sure if a stranger to NotD read this thread they would feel compelled to give the game a try... Who would have thought a simple game like NotD would inspire such great words. Very nice indeed. _________________

Without a doubt, teamplay is the keystone of the notd community. It also goes without mention that the joy of notd is brought to more people given the relaxed system requirements compared to newer generation games.
I am really interested in playing Red Solstice, but am concerned about the hardware requirements. What game might I be able to compare it to? What graphics engine is it based on, if any? Will it support HT technology?

In my opinion the player base (community) was as important a factor in the success of NotD 2 than any other factor. This community of players...characters, persons, groups, etc. helped us want to play more.
In NotD these communities were facilitated by chat channels and forums.
For this new game, I think the facilities that will allow players to gather is very important. Will there be a global lobby and/or private rooms where people chat? Will there be website and 'teams/clans'?
Anyway, things in game that made it exciting at first were:
- The 'fear' factor - not knowing what terrible foes you will face as you go.
- The surprise element when you that monster suddenly appears.
- Being able improvise and with the team, deal with these foes.
- The fact that there are multiple tactics you can improvise to deal with them.
- Need for teamwork and the 'co-op' feeling
- Customization (even though its small) of your marine
I think option to lower the graphics, etc. will be important too, for people with older computers. |

The women who play it. /thread
No but rly for me it are the challenges and the community
I still remember trying to kill ETA solo for a year or so together with Sage, a fine challenge indeed..
I loved playing almost every evening and relaxing with people who appreciate your demo skills.
Unfortunately I've kinda grown out of the game but who knows maybe one day I'll be an active notd'er again. |
